Product care

For live fish: Acclimate new arrivals by floating the sealed bag in your aquarium for 15-20 minutes to equalise temperature, then gradually introduce tank water over 10 minutes before releasing. Maintain stable water parameters with regular testing and weekly 20-30% water changes. Feed a varied diet appropriate to the species. For aquarium equipment and accessories: Follow the manufacturer instructions included with each product. Store fish food in a cool, dry place and use within the recommended timeframe for best results.

Description

Bolivian Ram (Mikrogeophagus altispinosus)

The Bolivian Ram is a colourful and relatively peaceful South American dwarf cichlid. Its attractive yellow-gold body, dark markings and red-edged fins make it an excellent feature fish for a well-maintained tropical community aquarium.

Care Information

Scientific name: Mikrogeophagus altispinosus
Origin: Bolivia and Brazil
Adult size: Approximately 8 cm
Temperature: 24–28°C
pH: 6.0–7.5
Temperament: Generally peaceful
Diet: Omnivorous
Care level: Intermediate

Aquarium Requirements

Bolivian Rams appreciate a mature, well-filtered aquarium with stable water conditions. Provide a soft sand or fine gravel substrate together with plants, driftwood, rocks and sheltered areas. Maintain good water quality through regular partial water changes.

Tank Mates

Suitable companions include peaceful tetras, rasboras, Corydoras and other community fish with similar water requirements. Avoid housing them with highly aggressive species. Like many cichlids, they may become territorial when breeding.

Feeding

Offer a varied diet of quality pellets or flakes supplemented with frozen or live foods such as brine shrimp and bloodworms.

Important

Livestock appearance, size and colour may vary between individual fish. Please contact Amazonia Aquarium to confirm current size and availability before ordering.
